When an employer requires you to work from a home office and is part of your contract of employment and they sign a T2200, you are able to claim the expenses it takes to run your house.

If your home office is10% of the total square feet of your home, you can claim 10% of the household expenses.

The other criteria are that the home office must be exclusively for working and you must use that space to complete more than 50% of your work.

During this time with COVID-19, many employers are requiring employees to work from home.

We will get a firm understanding of this for when we are filing 2020 taxes.

However, in the meantime, it is recommended you keep expenses and receipts that you may not normally keep.
